Hitting the ground running (on very little sleep)

What exactly is jet lag? According to wikipedia it's this:

Jet lag, medically referred to as desynchronosis, is a physiological condition which results from alterations to the body's circadian rhythms; it is classified as one of thecircadian rhythm sleep disorders. Jet lag results from rapid long-distance transmeridian (east–west or west–east) travel, as on a jet plane.

But does that mean anything to anyone?  It means nothing to me.  To me, jet lag means my sleeping schedule is wackadoodle.  I've been having a very hard time sleeping.  Aside from the first day since my return from Dubai, I've been sleeping about five hours a night.  It's quite frustrating to be so exhausted but unable to sleep.  And anyone who knows me knows how much I covet rest.  Regardless, I've been trying to work.  I've been editing since my computer was fixed and yesterday I spent most of the afternoon shooting a wonderfully lovely family.  It seems that no matter what I do I cannot escape the dynamic of contradictions.  I am too exhausted to work, but yet my insomnia gives me hours of usable work time.

Still, despite my wackadoodleness I'm here enjoy this gorgeous San Francisco weather.

--------------

For my shoot I wore my colorful, watercolor-print maxi-dress.  It was a good "work outfit" to keep me cool while keeping me modest.  I flounced around in my dress, contorting myself into random photographer-poses to get the shots.  There's something about that dress that makes me happy.  I smile now as I think about it fluttering over the tops of my feet.  I imagine the soft material against my skin.  It smells of warm weather from when I dried it in Dubai.  I love the smell of warm weather.  I loved the smell of sun on my clothes.

I almost wish I wore it again today.  The dress flowing over my legs as I typed, aimlessly watching pedestrians walk by this coffee shop.  A goofy smile plastered on my face; something that randomly appears and disappears and reappears.  Maybe it's not the dress.  Maybe it's just summer/fall.  Maybe it's the fact that I have peace.  Who knows.

I digress.

I have meetings today and tomorrow, with intermittent dedications to my editing at this coffee shop which I've missed so dearly.  It was lovely walking here.

Life's good.

And because I love sandwiches and breakfast, a picture of a breakfast sandwich.  :)
